Ballina ‘Fair Go’ comp 2012
With a fresh coat of paint, a bright blue sky (despite ominous weather reports) and even an ‘oil in the bowl’ style crisis narrowly avoided, it seemed the stars had really aligned for Ballina’s 13th Annual Fair Go competition. So with the sun shining and a buzzing crowd eagerly looking on, the day kicked off. First up were the heats, right from the junior girls through to the sponsored and open guys there was consistently good skating to be had all morning.
The finals were wrapped up in the usual heated fashion with some really gnarly and technical tricks not only getting thrown but consistently landed left right and centre. Then it was on to the best trick sections. The small rail featured more flip in variations/attempts than I’ve ever seen in a best trick rail comp, Tré Lip, Kickflip krooks and 5-0 to name a few. The Big rail turned more into a gap section as every one started throwing flip tricks down the bank, but not before Pat Dandy had a chance to noseblunt the rail. And finally it was down to the bowl jam, again the level of skating was almost unbelievable high, you could be forgiven for thinking you were watching a bunch of Pro’s skate the bowl. Jackson(Pilz)’s Kickflip Stalefish and John ‘peewee’ Dickenson’s gap up Fast-Plant in were definitely highlights, and of course young Jakob Robinson’s session ending BS Kickflip Indy blasted well above the coping, met by a healthy roar from the crowd.
Thanks to SBA for putting on one hell of a day, and the sponsors who put a bunch of cash and prizes up for grabs.
1st Jackson Pilz
2nd Bugs Fardell
3rd Joel Mccilroy
Stay tuned, might post up a b-roll in the next couple days with some cool left over’s and pretty ridiculous DNL’s that almost went down.
